Confirmation

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament of initiation. It reaffirms our Baptismal Promises and strengthens our relationship with the Holy Spirit.

At St. John Vianney Catholic Church, young people typically receive this sacrament in 8th grade, though it can be received any time after the sacrament of Baptism. Like Baptism, preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation looks different depending on where one is in his or her faith journey.

  1. Children in 8th grade prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation through Faith Formation by attending a Catholic School AND/OR participating in our Edge Youth Ministry program. Full preparation requires two years of Faith Formation.
  2. Adults preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation do so through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults). This program typically runs from August/September through the reception of the sacrament at the Easter Vigil.

To begin your preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for answers to questions you may have, please call the Parish Office.
