One year has passed since our St John Vianney parish community was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Looking back helps us to grieve the losses, remember the joys even admidst the suffering, honor how far we have come, and know there is a future full of hope.
Today we were able to celebrate the first regular daily mass in 366 days. The last picture is only a small representation of the strength and love we share. St John Vianney, pray for us.
Dear Lord, Through the intercession of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, protect us from all storms.
Its been a long 10 months, and we know our people are starting to feel so many emotions around storm season... let us continue to be reminded of the first line in the first reading...
Thus says the LORD:
I know their works and their thoughts,
and I come to gather nations of every language;
they shall come and see my glory.
Dream big and fly high! @frvictorr led a beautiful prayer and backpack blessing to all students and families as they begin a new school year. It was a bittersweet moment as we recognize that after 73 years, we will not be welcoming students back in our hallways tomorrow due to the catastrophic damage feom the fall 2024 hurricane season. But we continue to be committed to Catholic education and supporting our families and students. New beginnings for all, especially @d13g0__.m as he goes off to college to play football at Catholic U!!
That's right!!! It's the Feast of our Patron St. John Marie Baptiste Vianney!!! Our community is making lemonade out of lemons and made sure to celebrate our feast well this weekend at Sunday mass.. over 10 months since the hurricanes devastated us, but we are making progress day by day with each other to lean on.
1.Fr. Victor shared an incredible message about our patron and had a relic displayed for all to pray with.
2. We celebrated 2 baptisms- congrats Alonso & Clark (@frvictorr was the godfather to his nephew and introduced our community to his pastor growing up, Fr. Jacob)
3. Kona Ice Truck came out to cool down our parishioners after mass with a sweet treat.
4. We had nametag Sunday and were all smiles getting to out names with the familiar faces we sit near each week.
5. We said goodbye to @bigburton_50 as he goes off to college this week.
Over a dozen volunteers from all generations came together for our Landscaping Project Phase 1 with such a joy for the Lord!!! Working together, they were able to get this phase finished over two mornings. Sign up for our flocknote communications if you want to hear about all the good things happening at St John Vianney.

A final clap out for the students, teachers, and staff of St. John Vianney Catholic School. This school holds such a special place in so many hearts - and it always will.

Gratitude was shared, and the Lord's praises sung. @frvictorr thanked all the administration, staff, and teachers of @cathedralschoolofstjude for their generous hospitality during this past year.
Beautiful reminder of Lamentations 3:22-23 by
Fr. Andrew of @stjudecathedral
"The LORD’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent; They are renewed each morning."
We don't know exactly what the Lord has in store, but he promises, "I have much more to tell you, but you can not bear it now."John 16:12
Students- have a restful and restorative summer and see you at Sunday mass!!
A Night to Remember, indeed! Last night the memories of our 73 years as St. John Vianney Catholic School came flooding back. Artifacts, photos, and memorabilia were on display, and graduates from every single decade of the school's history were present. Thank you to Ellie Gionet (a graduate from SJV's first graduating class!), Elizabeth Boyce (beloved, long-time teacher at SJV), and our Pastor, Fr. Victor Amorose, for your eloquent tributes to our school. As this chapter of St. John Vianney Parish closes, last night reminds us that, as long as we have our family of St. John Vianney, the spirit of our school will live on!

Yesterday we celebrated the final School Appeal Mass, hosted the final clap out for our graduating 8th grade class, and threw a BBQ to honor the legacy of our annual end of the year BBQ tradition. Tonight we honor these incredibly resilient, compassionate, and Christ- like, young men and women at their graduation ceremony - the final graduating class of St. John Vianney Catholic School. We are so proud of this 8th grade class! St. John Vianney, pray for us!

Ave Maria! What a beautiful and heartfelt May Crowning today. Our 2nd & 8th grade students accompanied our school alongside St. Jude School to honor our blessed mother today. Continue to pray for our 2nd grade students who will receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time on Sunday at the 930am mass.
Monday night our girls and boys soccer teams will compete in the championship games! These happen to also be the final two athletic events in the school's history. All are welcome to come out and support these young athletes as they close out a historic soccer season!

Check out our Paschal Candle! Fun facts: 1. The candle flame reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world. 2. The 5 squares pressed into the candle at the Easter Vigil are actually incense and signify the 5 wounds of Christ (hands, feet, & side). 3. The Alpha and Omega remind us that God is the beginning and the end. 4. The year signifies that God is still ever-present in our lives.
The decoration of this year's candle was inspired by the flood waters brought in by Hurricane Helene. When we see this candle may we remember that God is with us in the storm and that His abundant mercy makes all things beautiful.
Happy Easter, St. John VIanney Family!

The Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord; one of two days of the year that we do not celebrate the Mass, the second being Holy Saturday. Today we journey alongside Christ in His crucifixion. Remember to take your crucifix off the wall and pray with it.

Last week our teachers had a little fun with an "underground" spirit week. Every day the teachers dressed up in different spirit outfits. The catch? The students didn't know what was going on! What a fun way to bring some extra joy to the classrooms!

What a fan-filled weekend at St John Vianney!!! We are back in the tent as the work begins in the church.. flexibility is key for our community!! As @frvictorr said this weekend... THANK YOU... for showing up, for volunteering, for participating, for your prayers for each other and our future... we give God praise... a scrutiny, confessions, hospitality after mass, and beautiful and visible signs of growth around campus...
Our community was gifted with 8 weeks in the church. Tomorrow begins the first phase of construction, and we are back out under the tent for next weekend. Our parishioners are amazing, resilient, dedicated people of God... thank you to everyone of you who came back this afternoon to help. We did it in under 12 minutes. Hope you were blessed with rest after that hard work for the Lord!!
Praying the Stations of the Cross is a powerful Lenten devotion. Join us every Friday during Lent for a Meatless Meal followed by the Stations of the Cross. Stations are prayed outside around our beautiful campus and our meatless meal is served under the tent. See you tonight for tuna salad and egg salad sandwiches!

Our School Appeal Masses are always so beautiful! We're extra proud of our first graders who read during the Mass. They did such a great job! Thank you to everyone who came to the 9:30 am Mass this past Sunday to show support for our school.

We express our heartfelt thanks to @diostpete pastoral center staff and @spchsbarons for providing a "room in the inn" to our middle school for 92 school days.. While we are excited to finish our last 44 days as a school community @cathedralschoolofstjude under one roof with our elementary school, we will cherish the memories of the time and love you poured into us.... thanks for the great send-off today....
Lent is a penitential season. But what exactly is "penance?" What does it mean, and why does it matter to us at St. John Vianney Catholic Church? Watch today's #TheologyThursday video to find out!

Throughout the season of Lent some parts of the Mass will sound a little different. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Mortem Tuam so that you can fully and enthusiastically participate in this prayer at every Lenten Mass.

In May, children from St. John Vianney Catholic School and from GRACE, our k-5 faith formation program, will receive their First Holy Communion. Today, as an important part of their preparation, they made their first Reconciliation. Please keep these children in your prayers as they continue on their journey towards receiving Christ in the Blessed Sacrament!

Congratulations to our four parishioners who were confirmed at Mass this morning! How wonderful that, despite how much has changed, we can still celebrate the sacraments as a St. John Vianney parish community.
Interested in joining the Church? Reach out to Fr. Joshua to learn about Initiate.
Be sure to watch till the end to see some true childlike faith in action. Children are always welcome at Mass!
