Baptism
Baptism
Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation serving as the entry into the Catholic Faith. We believe that a person is baptized once and for all, meaning that once baptized with water and in the name of the "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", that baptism is for life, even if done under another Christian Faith.
A person may be baptized at any age and since each person's faith journey is unique, sacrament preparation is also unique. At St. John Vianney we have different paths of preparation for the sacrament depending on one's age and level of understanding of the sacrament. No matter where you are in life, we will find a way for you to receive the sacrament of Baptism, generally though, sacrament preparation falls into one of three categories:
- Parents seeking baptism for an infant or very young child will prepare on the child's behalf. This preparation will take place with Fr. Joshua and will be scheduled with him through the front office.
- School age children preparing for the sacrament of Baptism will prepare by attending GRACE (Growing Religion and Catholic Education), our K-5 faith formation program or EDGE, our teen faith formation program, and by working with Fr. Joshua.
- Adults seeking Baptism will journey through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults). This program typically runs from August/September through the reception of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
If you're ready to begin the journey of Baptism preparation, please call our Parish Office.
