One year has passed since our St John Vianney parish community was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Looking back helps us to grieve the losses, remember the joys even admidst the suffering, honor how far we have come, and know there is a future full of hope.
Today we were able to celebrate the first regular daily mass in 366 days. The last picture is only a small representation of the strength and love we share. St John Vianney, pray for us.
Dear Lord, Through the intercession of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, protect us from all storms.
Its been a long 10 months, and we know our people are starting to feel so many emotions around storm season... let us continue to be reminded of the first line in the first reading...
Thus says the LORD:
I know their works and their thoughts,
and I come to gather nations of every language;
they shall come and see my glory.
It's coming.... be sure to come to mass each week at St John Vianney to hear important updates and more about the future at St John Vianney.... 10 months since the hurricanes destroyed our buildings, still dealing with so much, but what they didn't destroy is our spirit and our desire to know, love, and serve the Lord...
Dream big and fly high! @frvictorr led a beautiful prayer and backpack blessing to all students and families as they begin a new school year. It was a bittersweet moment as we recognize that after 73 years, we will not be welcoming students back in our hallways tomorrow due to the catastrophic damage feom the fall 2024 hurricane season. But we continue to be committed to Catholic education and supporting our families and students. New beginnings for all, especially @d13g0__.m as he goes off to college to play football at Catholic U!!
That's right!!! It's the Feast of our Patron St. John Marie Baptiste Vianney!!! Our community is making lemonade out of lemons and made sure to celebrate our feast well this weekend at Sunday mass.. over 10 months since the hurricanes devastated us, but we are making progress day by day with each other to lean on.
1.Fr. Victor shared an incredible message about our patron and had a relic displayed for all to pray with.
2. We celebrated 2 baptisms- congrats Alonso & Clark (@frvictorr was the godfather to his nephew and introduced our community to his pastor growing up, Fr. Jacob)
3. Kona Ice Truck came out to cool down our parishioners after mass with a sweet treat.
4. We had nametag Sunday and were all smiles getting to out names with the familiar faces we sit near each week.
5. We said goodbye to @bigburton_50 as he goes off to college this week.
The Chancellor’s Office received notice of the passing of Reverend Julio Rivero, T.O.R., 96 years old, a member of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis for 56 years, on July 11, 2025. He was in hospice care at Saint Francis Friary, Loretto, PA.
Father Julio served in our Diocese as Parochial Vicar of St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Parish, St. Petersburg, from 1988 – 1992; St. John Vianney Parish, St. Petersburg, from 1992 – 2002 and after serving as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Bradenton,; he came back to St. Mary Our Lady of Grace, as Parochial Vicar from 2009 – 2013. He was well known by many for his healing ministry and frequently visited our diocese to celebrate healing Masses.
Over a dozen volunteers from all generations came together for our Landscaping Project Phase 1 with such a joy for the Lord!!! Working together, they were able to get this phase finished over two mornings. Sign up for our flocknote communications if you want to hear about all the good things happening at St John Vianney.

Gratitude was shared, and the Lord's praises sung. @frvictorr thanked all the administration, staff, and teachers of @cathedralschoolofstjude for their generous hospitality during this past year.
Beautiful reminder of Lamentations 3:22-23 by
Fr. Andrew of @stjudecathedral
"The LORD’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent; They are renewed each morning."
We don't know exactly what the Lord has in store, but he promises, "I have much more to tell you, but you can not bear it now."John 16:12
Students- have a restful and restorative summer and see you at Sunday mass!!
A Night to Remember, indeed! Last night the memories of our 73 years as St. John Vianney Catholic School came flooding back. Artifacts, photos, and memorabilia were on display, and graduates from every single decade of the school's history were present. Thank you to Ellie Gionet (a graduate from SJV's first graduating class!), Elizabeth Boyce (beloved, long-time teacher at SJV), and our Pastor, Fr. Victor Amorose, for your eloquent tributes to our school. As this chapter of St. John Vianney Parish closes, last night reminds us that, as long as we have our family of St. John Vianney, the spirit of our school will live on!
